There’s something magical about blending the bold, crisp designs of Chalk Couture transfers with the soft, dreamy washes of watercolor. In this project, we’re using chalk AND watercolor to create a unique Apple Orchard sign.
First, here are the supplies you need:
- Hanging Sign
- Apple Orchard transfer
- Various Colors of Paste
- Board Eraser
- Mini Squeegee
- Color Tray
- Paintbrushes
- Sand paper
You can grab the Chalk Supplies HERE
Do a light sand on your surface using 180 grit to ensure the grain of the wood is smooth to prevent bleeds

Do a light wash using water down Vanilla paste to decrease stark white of the surface and give an aged and wood grain look

Apply transfer centering it on the surface.

Using Dune paste and squeegee, chalk the basket, apples, and leaves. Dont chalk any words at this point.

Then peel and reveal and wash the transfer and let dry
Dilute the Cherry and Cabernet paste. Starting with the lighter color (Cherry) paint the apple using a paintbrush and then add the darker red (Cabernet) along the bottoms of the apple, around the stem, and on the sides to give the apples depth and a more rounded appearance. It is best to do one apple at a time to blend the colors together while wet. Also you can leave some highlights more on the fronts

Trust the process, at this point it will look messy! Just keep working!
Continue this process with the Sage and Pesto -using lighter color first, then adding the darker color in the back, underside, and middle of the leaves once again for depth, and blending the colors if necessary.

Repeat again using the Bark and Expresso browns for the basket.

Using the Vanilla paste and paint brush watercolor the two small flowers and slice of apple towards the bottom.

Remember it will still look messy but trust the process and it will come together on the last step
Let dry and then do a LIGHT sand using 400 grit sandpaper to ensure the surface is smooth to decrease chance of bleeds
Place the transfer back on the surface matching up design of the apples, leaves, and basket.

Carefully smooth out any air bubbles not pressing too hard,
Using the Ash paste and squeegee, chalk over the watercolored part and words on the sides if the basket ONLY!
Chalk the rest if the words using Cabernet. Remember to work quickly because chalk paste dries within 5 minutes and you don’t want it to dry in the screen. If it does the paste will remain in the screen and not the surface.

Now peel and reveal and be amazed at how awesome your project looks!
Then stage your project and enjoy!
